Saturday Tunes: Haim and Jesse Thomas
Finding underground music is one of my favorite pastimes. There is something so special about discovering and loving a band/artist way before they blow up into a big star. Their music is never overplayed, which means that I won't grow to hate their songs. Bands/artists keep their unique tone and do not always conform to what their "fans" expect from them. I am not saying that all artists/bands conform, but a lot give into what the media wants and sometimes lose their original touch after all is said and done.
Moreover, there is a con to being an underground band, too. It's not all glitz and I-knew-them-first. Really amazing artists deserve to be found and loved all over. If they are talented, why let it kind of go to waste by keeping them a secret? Sure, it sucks when their songs become really overplayed {Ahem, "Summertime Sadness.}, but it is worth it if the artist/band gets to reach his/her/their dream(s).
Sister-style is becoming the new "It-Thing" in the world of music. HAIM is the perfect trio to show off the impeccable skills these types of bands have. The funny thing is that you are most likely familiar with these girls if you have ever seen Target's recent commercial. Their tune "Forever" is playing in the background. Amazing, right? That is how I came upon this trio, actually. Well, to be honest, I came across them from one of Nasty Gal' blog posts {that I cannot seem to find now}. Either way, I have found the band and am officially in love!
Their 2013 album Days Are Gone is honest-to-God perfect. These gals in HAIM can honest sing and harmonize together very well! I am really looking forward to the day that I can see them in concert because I have heard that they're 10x more amazing live {and that is hard to imagine because of how amazing they sound on audio}. Some of my fave songs are, like always, below. Check them out!

If you like artists with mellow yet gorgeous voices, Jesse Thomas is the one for you. With a light voice, she has sung songs such as "Better Geography" and "Brave," which are the two of my fave songs from her 2012 album War Dancer. From her most recent album Burn the Boats, Jesse has revived her voice with eleven songs, starting with "I'm Not Scared" and ending with "Mug Shot."
It is artists such as Jesse that are often overlooked. Once listening to her music, you will see why I say that. It is not because she has loud, powerful vocals like Beyonce, or a twang of a Spanish accent like Shakira. Her music represents her, which is a subtle gal that wants her voice to be heard. Artists that stay true to themselves, write what they want to write, and sing it how they please are my faves. I guess that's another reason why I adore Jesse so much.

{Because I do not feel like writing another feature for another artist, I am going to share some of Jesse's older tunes here. Since Burn the Boats is a newer album, the songs are not yet uploaded onto Grooveshark. Danggit.}
Have a fab, fun Saturday! :)
