How To Wear Red Shoes

By 10:00 AM , , , , , , , ,

The color red symbolizes strength, power, and passion. It also is know to be a color worn when wanting to feel sexy. One of women's favorite ways wear red is on their lips. Others include lingerie, nail polish, dresses, and even, dare I say it,  shoes. The sad thing is that some women feel too intimidated to bust out the red pumps and elongate their legs. Instead, they grab the neutral black (and moving on to nude) pumps and keep it going. What needs to be known is that red shoes are not that hard to wear. It only takes the right outfit and a little bit of courage to do it. Trust me - the benefits you'll reap from doing so are so well worth it. An illusion of longer legs will be given (with heels), the color will look nice paired with tan legs and feet, and it'll be a nice pop of color against neutrals or patterns. Red is, after all, a bold color.

1. Pop of Color

Wearing red for what it really is (a bold color) is always a good choice. If you are not ready to add red as a piece of clothing just yet, stick with your footwear. It'll leave just about the same impression as if you were rocking a red bodice! Like Sienna Miller did in this outfit, sticking with neutral colors and adding a splash of one always works. Always. And the fact that those booties are really killer helps, too.

2. All Black Ensemble

Black is a really amazing, neutral color that can be worn with pretty much everything. When people say "so-and-so is the new black," I shoot them a are-you-kidding-me look. Black is the new black, and it will forever be. One of the all-time classic pairings have been red with black, and I do not foreshadow that going anywhere. The combination sometimes irritates me because it is so common, but when worn right (I prefer the darker red with the black), it can look very fashion-forward. And like Luanna Perez from the blog LeHappy, red Lita boots can look very nice when paired with leather leggings, a black shirt, and a blue jean jacket.

3. Red on Red

If you like to dress in a quirky, feminine manner, then red-on-red is just right for you (especially in time for Valentine's Day). In this post on What I Wore, Jessica Quirk's outfit is kept neutral aside from a pop on the bottom from the tights and red wedges (and notice the lips and nails!). The combination created here is really feminine and flirty due to the ruffled skirt, business-casual because of the mixture of the striped shirt, scarf, and skirt, as well as fun due to the fun colors! Note that you do not have to keep the red limited to the bottom. A really cute, red dress mixed with some red shoes or tights can go a long way as well! One piece of advice is to just mix the shade of the red up to not overdo the look (compare the shade of the tights and shoes to see what I mean).

4. Business on Top, Party on Bottom

Remember the Orthodox Jew Ponytail from Pitch Perfect that Fat Amy wore? Take that and switch it into fashion, and you will have the classic outfit that you can wear to work.  The fun play of color (and really hot shoes!) looks really nice paired with the typical dress for work. It can transition well throughout the day and never lose its charm. Don't be afraid to rock it bareleg, too! However, if that is a little too risque for your job, throw on some tights and call it a day! Don't forget a blazer would mold the look into a more appropriate one if you still need to tone the look down a bit.

5. Sailor Moon Style

This outfit reminds me so much of Sailor Moon: blue on the bottom, white button up, red shoes. Wyechin's outfit is a modern take on the show that I watched majority of my childhood. It's cute, fashion-forward, and flirty! Dressing like a character out of a television show or movie can always be a fun spin in getting dressed. Of course, making it your take on the outfit is what matters the most. Be daring like Wyechin and mix it up a little - the results can be gorgeous!

6. Casual It Up

Wearing red pumps do not always mean you have to be going somewhere fancy or anything. They can be worn for the most casual of affairs. ElePetrella makes the look work by making the base of her outfit a white ZARA dress, and jazzing it up with a red ZARA tweed jacket, red Arcadia bag, and red Bershka pumps. The look can be worn for just going to eat some lunch or something. The chunky necklace on top also makes the outfit. If you want to recreate an outfit such as this, choose a base color for your ensemble (make sure that it is not too dressy of a piece), throw on a jacket, and butter the rest up with red accessories. If you feel like the color needs to be broken up, throw in a leopard clutch or swap out the red jacket for a blue jean one. There are multiple options for recreating this outfit to fit you, all the while letting the red pumps take the lead.

7. Denim on Denim

Spice up your outfit by wearing the Canadian Tuxedo with a splash of red on the feet. Instead of sticking to the the neutral colors, throw some denim into the factor and it'll just come all together. The outfit will make you look well put together, yet it will take you minimum time to get ready. It's a win-win.

8. Complimentary Colors

Colors that compliment red can always help make the outfit look better. For instance, the yellow in Lisa's scarf below pairs nicely with the red in the sweater and shoes. The colors do not clash, and it looks really good together! Lisa could have easily wore black wedges to go with this outfit, but she didn't and that's a good thing because I doubt the effect of the black wedges would be the same as the red ones. Oh! And a tip for wearing colors that compliment each other: wear the right shade! Sure yellow and red looks good together, but I am pretty sure that one shade or another may not compliment each other as well as another. Moreover, remember to be bold and stay bold.
