Are You Really Happy? How I'm Happy.

By 6:38 PM

What exactly is happiness? Is it the feeling of joy when we get extra money? Is it the feeling of completion when we finish something that we have been working on for the longest time? Or is it the simplest emotion that comes from just seeing something or somebody that you like/love? The definition of happiness cannot be defined by one thing.  It comes from tons of things. It can be something big, or it can be something tiny; nevertheless, not just one thing can bring happiness. It's an undefinable feeling, actually.  Sure, you can throw titles such as immense pleasure, or gleefulness, or the best feeling in the world out there, but how does one actually define it? Who knows.  But what I do know is that to be happy, you have to be completely free of the stressful things in life [in your mind], if only temporary.  You have to free your mind from those stressful, overtaking thoughts. Then, and only then, will happiness ensue.

Honestly, think about what I just said. When have you ever been really happy when you have had burden after burden weighing down on your mind? Now, think back to whenever you have freed your mind of that burden - were you happy?

How I Free My Mind to be TRULY happy:

  1. I listen to music.  There is nothing more freeing than listening to some soul-searching tunes. Or loud, obnoxious tunes - either one works for me.
  2. I read a book. Getting lost in a word other than my own, pretending to be someone that I am not, diving headfirst into a word that is foreign to me is the perfect way for me to free my mind.  It allows for me to push away my burdens and focus on someone elses, which I can easily get rid of by putting the book down.  By the time I put the book down, my mind is free (until I think of it again, at least).
  3. I read blogs.  Seeing how other people (in real life) are living gives me freedom.  Seeing the fun that they are having, reading their experiences, and even hearing about some of the bad things happening in their lives. It may seem like I am using them, but just learning about how their lives are and given a chance to emphasize (not pity; I hate pity) if needed gives me a chance to escape reality. I usually do this before bed to clear my mind.
  4. I play with puppies and kitties. Okay, this one is self explanatory. They are the best burden-reliever. If you say that the gif below does not make you happy, then you're an odd fellow, you.
  5. I write. Writing is very soothing.  It also allows for me to express myself (regardless to if I hate publish or not).
