Wearing Leggings: Do or Don't.
Hi, everyone! How is your Sunday going? Although I said that I would not be around these parts of the blog world (or electronics) today, I couldn't do it. Honestly, I tried! After cleaning out half of my closet and folding everything in preparation for the move, I sat around, listened to music, reorganized stuff, and ate for a good two hours. Then...well, things got boring. Because I do not have a car, I simply could not do anything about that, so I gave in and reached for my iPad mini, phone, and laptop. Downloading music (omigosh, I love Selena Gomez's new album!) and writing a blog post for my interior design blog has been the two things that kept my attention. Now, it is this here blog's turn. :)
While surfing the Internet yesterday, I found a post about how women over 40 wear leggings. Why I was reading a post about 40+ women, I have no clue. Nevertheless, I decided to create a post about how gals my my age group (teenagers-young adults alike) wear leggings. Generally, this is how I wear leggings, but hey, we're all different. Typically, I wear leggings with either knee-high boots, longer shirts, jackets, sneakers (for working out), or sandals. I despise wearing leggings with flats (that looks horrid!), heels, and crop tops (seriously!?). Want to know why? Well, keep on reading, you.
How to wear leggings in five different ways:
Gym shoes and a sweatshirt. It is such a timeless classic that it is nearly impossible to not wear it right. If it is warmer, instead of a sweatshirt, pair the leggings an gym shoes with a loose, sleeveless (or with sleeves) tee.
Biker jacket paired with colorful combat boots and a cute clutch. If you are interested in going for a bad-ass look, then this should be a great ensemble for you. The leggings that I prefer to wear are not the flimsy, thin type, but the on-the-way-to-leather/jeans - do you get what I'm saying? Let's just pretend that you do. And, course, a clutch can tone the outfit down a bit, giving it a more feminine addition.
A dress, booties, and leopard prints. I, honestly, love wearing dresses over [thin] leggings. It is a cute, flirty look that more modest people can wear if they'd prefer to not show off their bum with nothing covering it. Leopard print is also the "new black", so throwing that into the ensemble really gives it a bolder look.
Plaid shirt, converse, and graphic tee. The versatility of a plaid shirt is many. Not only can you wear it buttoned up, you can unbutton it, as well as it tie it around your waist for a more "girl-next-door", laid back look. Converse adds to the look, and it's just a must for this type of look (my opinion, y'all).
Rules to wearing leggings:
1. Don't wear leggings that are see-through unless you are wearing a long shirt or dress over it. These rule is a no-brainer as you should not want everyone to see everything. And if you prefer to wearing see-through leggings, yet a shorter shirt/no dress, then wear some nude panties.
2. Don't EVER wear baby doll flats with leggings. That is one of the worst things that you can do. The footwear paired with leggings is very crucial, and one of the easiest things some gals can mess up. I highly recommend booties/low-heels/knee-high boots/gym shoes/sandals.
3. Be daring either on top or bottom, but never both. When wearing leggings, I usually prefer to stick with darker colors (i.e. black or gray), and shy away from the colorful types (nothing wrong with them, though!). That is just me. Of course, to fancy/bold-en it up a bit, I wear something really cute on top (unless I'm going for a workout, then who cares!). This is really important because if you wear a bold top and bottom, you will look...er, the opposite of cute. Stick with one or the other, y'all; never both. NEVER.
4. Purchase good quality leggings. If you are looking for something that can last for years (or a good while, at least), then get good quality leggings. This can also help prevent from seeing cheek/thigh dimples. Also, make sure that it is not too loose. They will bunch up, and that is not very flattering either.
5. Wear something longer (at least tunic length) over the leggings. This is optional, but something that is preferred by many. Seriously. If you want to show off how good your bum looks, then just wear some booty shorts or a tight dress - done! Not leggings. Whenever I wear a shorter length top with leggings, the "leggings" are pushing it towards the jeans/leather pants category - actual pants, y'know.
6. Do not wear pattern-on-pattern leggings and top. Honestly, this is a [self] opinion, and I really dislike seeing matching leggings and tops (unless it's a plain black tee with black leggings). Seriously. Nubella pattern top and nubella pattern pants (btw: nubella is a galaxy/space) is so annoying. If you're going to wear the leggings, wearing a simple top! It's not. difficult, bud. Not at all.
Song Choice: 'Birthday' by Selena Gomez. This song is off of her new album, Stars Dance, and I am addicted! Honestly. It makes me ready for my birthday...which is next year. Whatever. It is a song that you need to listen to, so click play below and enjoy!
