Curse School and These Cute Bags
I have been dreading writing anything related to school for the past two months (makes sense as it's summer). But, considering that today is August 1st, I figured that I might as well knock this ugh-i-hate-school-die post out of the way. Well, that's not actually what this post is about. It's about bags that are perfect for school. On Tumblr, a gal asked a question about the type of bags that would be really good to carry around during the school year, hence this post about back-to-school bags {bags bags bags; I feel like I'm overusing the word right now}.
My go-to bags for school tend to either be an over-sized tote, or a regular book-bag. For the past few years, I have sworn off bags that go across my chest. I've done this for two reason: 1. the are a pain in my bum when I have to constantly put it over my head (taking it on or off), and 2. the strap hurts the middle of my chest and collarbone. Maybe it is because of the type of bag that I am wearing, or because I need to loosen it, but I have only had bad experiences with these, therefore I refuse to wear them (unless it is a regular purse that I don't have to carry books in). But I have had good experiences with regular book-bags and totes. They can not only be very trendy, they can also be very comfortable and fit tons (says the girl who had JROTC, dance, and swim/tennis practice all on the same day).
Advice on getting bags for back-to-school.
1. Get something that can fit a lot. This is quite self-explanatory. Especially if you are in high school, you need a bag that can fit a gazillion and infinity amount of things with the amount of crap teachers like to pile up on you. Joking (sort of). But, no joke, you need to get a back that can fit whatever you need to stuff into your bag without you complaining that "it won't fit!" For me, I hated going to my locker, so I literally used to stuff my coat into my bag (but I never carried any books, except my history one) as well as my dance clothes, and on Friday, my P.T. clothes (ughhhh, curse JROTC).
2. Get something with tons of compartments, or at least three. I find that having more than two compartments is a lifesaver. It not only allows for me to fit more unnecessary crap into my bag, it allowed for me to stay (semi-) organized (oh-la-la, a juxtaposition!).
3. Choose a bag that you won't hate by Christmas. Of course, if you do, it's Christmas time, so wish for a new school bag. But I tend to prefer getting gifts that have absolutely nothing to do with school (just me? no. thought so). Form? Yes. Function? Course. That equates to the. perfect. bag. EVER. And if it is this bag, then that's even better.
4. Do not - and I repeat, DO NOT - get a book bag with wheels. A bag with wheels on it was cool...in elementary school. If you walk into high school with a bag with a pair of rollies on it, then you will be resented by the entire school. This is for two reasons, 1. you stop traffic when you have to climb (up or down) stairs, and you stop just to put the handle down, and 2. what ever made you think that rolling a book-bag around in a crowded hallway full of people that do not even want to be there was ever a good idea? Hm? When!?
5. Get something that zips. This is seriously a lifesaver. Think about those moments when you [mistakenly] drop your bag on the floor. And think about how mortified you'd be if anything personal would fall our (or just anything at all because you have to clean all of your junk up). It's just much better not having to be worried about all of your stuff falling out of your bag.
And a photo that has nothing to do with this post, but I thought it should be added. |
